In the realm of business, every detail matters. From the way a company communicates its message to the design of its physical spaces, every choice shapes the brand's identity. One often overlooked aspect of this branding journey is the design of the space itself. Crafting a unique identity through thoughtful design not only enhances the workspace but also reinforces the brand's values and message to both employees and visitors.

The original vison board for Rock U Canada's new flag ship location
Susanne Desbrow Interior Design had the pleasure of assisting Rock U Canada with the concept for their first location, located in Brentwood mall (Calgary, Alberta). The main focus of the design was to create an environment where children felt comfortable and motivated to learn music.
'Rock U Canada' specializes in band programs. Susanne personally experienced how children can lose interest in playing instruments during their teenage years. When she was a teenager, she stopped playing the guitar because her music lessons were primarily focused on classical guitar, while she simply wanted to jam to Oasis songs. This led Susanne to envision a lively setting where kids would enjoy spending time and wouldn't feel disheartened.
The band rooms were themed, One room was kitted out to look like a 70's rec room, and the other reassembled the inside of a garage. The design was functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.
The reception area tied in with the companies branding colours, The red from their logo was incorporated in the red neon sign behind their reception desk. Black elements matching their website branding were incorporated in their reception desk millwork and in their feature wallpaper, as fun cassette themed paper.
Importance of Branding in Design
When done right, design can communicate the company's culture, values, and personality, creating a cohesive brand experience that resonates with both employees and clients.
Using Color Psychology for Brand Representation
Color plays a crucial role in branding and design, as different colors evoke different emotions and associations. By strategically incorporating brand colors into the office design, a company can visually reinforce its identity and create a memorable brand experience. For example, a tech company might use vibrant colors like blue and green to convey innovation and creativity, while a luxury brand might opt for sleek black and gold tones to evoke sophistication and elegance.
Conclusion
Design is a powerful branding tool that goes beyond aesthetics. Utilizing color psychology and innovative elements, companies can create unique spaces reflecting their brand values. Crafting a distinct identity through design shapes a brand experience for all users. Check out images below of Rock U Canada's Brentwood Mall location.
